Setting up a Ring Doorbell 2 is a simple process that only takes a few minutes. Before starting, it’s important to confirm the password for the Wi-Fi network you plan to connect your Ring doorbell. It’s best to write it down since it’s case sensitive and needs to be entered exactly during the setup flow.
If you don’t know your Wi-Fi password or have never changed it, look for a sticker on the bottom of your router or contact your internet service provider.
To begin, download the Ring app from the App Store or the Google Play Store, search for Ring, and select the blue icon with a bell to download the app. If this is your first time opening the Ring app, select “Set up a device” and follow the in-app prompts to create an account. If you’re already logged into the Ring app, select “Set up device” to get started.
Next, select “Ring Video Doorbell” and name your Ring. This is useful if you have multiple Ring devices so you’ll know exactly where your alerts are coming from. Confirm your street address on the next screen.
If you have a Chime Pro at the same location, you’ll be asked if you want to connect your Ring doorbell to your Chime Pro network. Connecting Ring Doorbell to a Chime Pro network simplifies the setup process and improves signal strength to your Ring doorbell.
Press and release the setup button on your Ring. When you remove the faceplate, make sure the battery is inserted and push the black button just under the lens on the front. The light on the front of your Ring will start spinning, which means it’s in setup mode. If the light doesn’t spin, the battery in your Ring might need to be charged. Use the supplied orange cable or any other microUSB cable to charge the removable battery. While charging, both the red and green lights will light up. When only the green light is lit, it’s completely charged. Slide the battery back into the compartment. There will be a click when the battery is secured. Wait about half a minute for Ring Doorbell to power on and boot.
After pushing the setup button, tap “Continue” in the app to continue. If you have a Chime Pro and have selected the option to connect your Ring doorbell to your Chime Pro network, the rest of the setup process will auto-complete at this point.
If you’re on an Android device, you will automatically connect to the Wi-Fi signal broadcast by your Ring doorbell, in which case you can skip the next step. However, on some Android devices, you may need to leave the Ring app and manually connect your Ring doorbell in your phone or tablet’s Wi-Fi settings. If you’re on an Android device and have trouble with this step, see our video on troubleshooting Ring’s setup on Android devices.
If you’re on an iPhone or iPad, you’ll have to leave the Ring app to access your Wi-Fi settings. The easiest way to do this is by holding down the home button and asking Siri for Wi-Fi settings. If you don’t have Siri enabled, push the home button to exit the Ring app and look for the Settings app. Once in settings, select Wi-Fi and look for the network that starts with “Ring” followed by a number. Select it and wait for it to appear at the top of your screen with a checkmark, then return to the Ring app.
The app will start scanning for your personal Wi-Fi networks. Select the network that you want your Ring doorbell to connect to. If you have more than one, select the network that’s closest to where you’ll be installing your Ring. On the following screen, enter your Wi-Fi password, which is case-sensitive. An incorrect password will cause your setup to fail, so double-check to make sure it’s correct, then select “Continue.”
Next, you’ll see the light on your Ring and in the app change to a blue pattern. This means your Ring is attempting to connect to your Wi-Fi network. When the light on your Ring doorbell flashes blue four times, congratulations, your Ring has been successfully set up.
