Clipart can be a great way to enhance your documents and presentations, but sometimes the colors and layout may not match your needs. In this article, we’ll show you how to modify clipart in Microsoft Word 2013.
First, click on the image you want to modify and hold down the Ctrl key. While doing that, click and pull down to make an exact copy of it. This will help you see the before and after effect.
Next, go to the Format contextual tab in the ribbon and in the Arrange group, click on the “Group Objects” button. This joins objects together so you can move and format them as a single object. You can also ungroup them later if needed.
If you get a message that reads “This is an imported picture not a group. Do you want to convert it to a Microsoft Office drawing object?” click on Yes.
The clip art image is made up of lots of group shapes that can be resized very easily. To modify these shapes, click on the object, and you’ll get the Drawing Tools contextual tab with the Format tab. You can pick different objects, go to Shape Fill, and choose a new color.
If you want to match colors, double click on Format Painter, and click on every object to have the formatting match. Press Escape when you’re done with Format Painter.
To change the background color, click on the shape, go back up to the Format tab, and change the Shape Fill. If you want to delete a shape, click on it and press the Delete key.
Once you’re happy with the modified clipart, group all those little shapes into one object by going to the Drawing Tools contextual tab, clicking on Format, going back to the Group button, and choosing Group.
That’s it! You now know how to modify clipart in Microsoft Word 2013, and the same steps can be applied in PowerPoint or Excel.
