The Ring Car Cam is a security device for your car that allows you to monitor what’s happening inside and outside your car. It’s a smart device that connects to the internet, and it’s easy to install. In this post, we’ll give you a step-by-step guide on how to install Ring Car Cam.
First, let’s take a look at what’s inside the box. In addition to the device itself, you’ll find a power cable, an OBD adapter, a privacy cover, and additional installation pieces.
To make sure your Ring Car Cam can connect to the internet, park in an area with good cellular reception or within range of your home Wi-Fi network.
Next, open the Ring app and tap “set up a device”. Scan the barcode at the bottom of the device, and the app will guide you through the installation process.
Now, lay the long power cable across the dashboard and plug one end into the car cam and the other into the OBD adapter. The cable needs to reach past the halfway point of the dash.
After plugging the camera in, the light on top should turn on. If it doesn’t light up right away, try starting the engine, and in 10 to 30 seconds, the light should start pulsing green.
It’s now time to find a pathway for the cable. Starting at the OBD port, route the cable up over the left side of the dashboard and run it along the base of the windshield, collecting any excess on the right side of the dashboard on the other side of the car cam.
Test fit the car cam in the dash. Gently push the narrow end of the car cam into the gap between the center of the dashboard and the windshield, taking the cable with it. If it doesn’t fit tightly, add the included spacer to the end of the cam.
Clean the inside of the windshield with the alcohol pad so that the car cam will stick easily, and let the windshield dry. Then, remove the sticker, and firmly push the narrow end of the car cam into place between the dashboard and the windshield. Lift the cam up and press until the adhesive pad fully contacts the windshield, applying pressure for a full 30 seconds.
Starting from the OBD2 port, use the cable tuck tool to push the cable into all the little nooks and crannies across the dashboard. Any excess cable you find along the way can be tucked into the passenger side of the dashboard gap. Ring has also included cable clips to help secure the cable at any point in your car.
After doing a quick safety check, make sure that the car cam is firmly attached to the windshield with the adhesive, the cable is tucked in and secured, and that the cable is routed safely away from the pedals and the gear shift in the footwell.
Finally, you’re ready to finish the installation in the Ring app. That’s it! Your Ring Car Cam is up and running, and you’re ready to monitor what’s happening in and around your car.
