Shadowkeep has arrived, which means new exotics are available in Destiny 2. If you’re looking to obtain the Deathbringer rocket launcher, we’ve got you covered. Here’s what you need to do to get your hands on it.
First, make sure your power level is at least 900, as Deathbringer rewards a +5 powerful drop. It’s vital to get this before 900, as it would be a waste of a powerful drop. Once you’ve confirmed your power level, complete the main Shadowkeep campaign to unlock some weekly bounties from Eris.
You’ll need to complete the Lunar Spelunker bounty, which requires you to visit three of the four Lost Sectors on the moon (excluding Sorrow’s Harbor) and complete them for the Firewall Data Fragment. Additionally, you’ll need the Memory of Sai Mota quest, which leads you to drop the Firewall Fragment in the final Lost Sector of Sorrow’s Harbor. Once you’ve done that, take the right side path instead of the main exit to reach glass doors where you’ll plug in the Firewall. After hitting another switch inside the room, you’ll receive the Memory of Sai Mota necklace, which you’ll need to charge up by killing Nightmares on the Moon with arc abilities. It’s best to roam around Sorrow’s Harbor for this.
Once you’ve gathered 20 pieces, head back to Eris at Sanctuary (in the portal area) and give her the necklace. She’ll give you a +3 power upgrade item and the start of the Deathbringer quest line. Next, head to the quest start banner in the Circle of Bones, which can be reached by running the route you took for The Summoning Pits strike or by following the on-screen instructions.
You’ll start the mission and head towards where it tells you, killing everything in there and picking up the Silent Skull quest item. This item starts the next part of the quest, Tainted Lullaby. Go back to Eris to grab the next step, which requires you to complete a Public Event in the Hellmouth, do the K1 Revelation Lost Sector in Sorrow’s Harbor, and kill a Bone Collector. The Bone Collector is located in the Anchor of Light, near a Fallen spawn area to the left of where you come into Anchor of Light from Sanctuary.
After those steps are complete, load up the Scarlet Keep strike to kill the High Conductor. This enemy spawns during the elevator section towards the end. After you kill the High Conductor, you’ll need to kill 400 red bar enemies, about 50 orange bar and/or weaker yellow bar enemies, and 10 boss level enemies. It’s best to run lost sectors for the red bar enemies and kill the Ogre Nightmare enemy in Sorrow’s Harbor for the yellow bar enemies. For the orange bar and/or weaker yellow bar enemies, killing the Nightmares and doing Escalation Protocol can help.
Once that step is complete, you’ll be on to the final part: Choir of the Damned. Go back down into the Hellmouth and towards the edge of the Hellmouth pit to find the Choir quest, which is a 920 mission. This mission will send you back into where you got the Cryptoglyph to kill some named Wizards. To stop their song, shoot their shields completely off, and they’ll stop. You’ll move from section to section killing Wizards until you’ve killed a Deathsinger.
After Toland talks a bunch, head back to Eris, who will grant you the Deathbringer rocket launcher. This weapon is quite different from typical rocket launchers, as you hold the button to fire and release to detonate the blast. When the blast is detonated, it releases void orbs that track down enemies. The further a void orb falls, the more powerful the detonation. So, you want to shoot a round above a group of enemies and then detonate it high above their heads to rain down void orbs on them.
While the Deathbringer rocket launcher is a fun and unique weapon, its place in the meta is still up for debate. Nonetheless, it’s worth obtaining if you’re looking for something new to try.
