If your Windows 8 phone is not working properly or keeps crashing, resetting it to its factory settings can help fix the issues. In this guide, we’ll show you how to reset your Windows 8 phone in just a few easy steps.
To get started, open the Charm bar by pressing the Windows key + C or moving your cursor to the lower right corner of the screen. Next, select Settings and then Change PC Settings. This will open a new window where you can access the various Recovery Options.
From the list on the left-hand side, choose the General heading, and then scroll all the way down to the bottom in the right-hand panel. Here, you will find the option to Remove everything and reinstall Windows. This will reset the operating system to its factory defaults and remove all user data. Before performing this option, be sure to backup your files.
Once you’ve selected the Remove everything and reinstall Windows option, click Get started. You’ll be given two options: the first is quicker and means that someday it can be recovered from the hard drive with the right tools. The second takes much longer and does a full format of the hard drive. For most users, the first option – just remove my files – is more than enough.
Click Reset to begin the process. It’s important to make sure your system is connected to a power source throughout this process. If you lose battery power in the middle of the reset, it can cause problems. So keep your phone plugged in throughout.
During the reset, your phone will reboot itself. If it seems to stick at a certain percentage, it may need some time to finish the process. Just make sure it’s left plugged in throughout. Once the reset is complete, the system will ask for default setup options such as language and creating a user account.
