How to Check Excel File Extension and Fix File Format Issues

Have you ever encountered an issue with Microsoft Excel where you can’t open a file because the file format or file extension is not valid? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to check the file extension and fix any file format issues.

First and foremost, make sure that you can access the file location. If you’re unsure about the file type, right-click on the file and select “Properties”. Make sure that “Opens with” is set to Excel and the file type should be XLSX. This will ensure that you have the correct file type.

If you’re still having issues, try right-clicking on the file and selecting “Properties”. Then, select the “Security” tab and click on “Edit” to change permissions. From there, select the “Add” button and enter “Everyone” in the object names to select. Click “Find now” and select “Everyone”. Make sure to check the box for “Full control” and click on “Apply” and then “OK”.

Once you’ve done this, go ahead and select the “Advanced” button and select “Everyone”. Click on “Edit” and make sure that everything is checkmarked under “Allow” and “Full control”. Click “OK” to save the changes.

After you’ve completed all of these steps, close all windows and try to open your Excel file again. It should work without any issues.
