If you have just bought a new desktop PC or laptop and want to connect it to your monitor, but you do not have the right connections, don’t panic! On some monitors, there is only a VGA input, while some PCs have two HDMI outputs so you can link them to a modern monitor, a TV, or two monitors at the same time.
If your monitor has only a VGA input, and your PC or laptop has an HDMI output, you can use an HDMI to VGA adapter unit to connect them. You don’t need any software; it’s a simple fix that requires only the adapter. You can find an HDMI to VGA adapter unit on a well-known auction site or any electronics store.
To connect them, plug the HDMI socket into the back of your desktop PC or laptop, making sure it has a good connection. Then, take the male VGA connector from your monitor and plug it into the female connector on the VGA adapter. Tighten the locking screws, and you’re all set!
You can test the monitor to ensure it’s working correctly by going to display settings, and you will find that it’s still Full HD 1920 by 1080 pixels. This setup also works with laptops, and the same HDMI to VGA output can be plugged into the HDMI port on your laptop.
It will automatically mirror the screen on your monitor, which is absolutely fantastic. Now you can enjoy your desktop or laptop on a larger screen!
