If you are encountering the “Restart to repair drive errors” message under Security and Maintenance in Windows 10, there are several reasons that could be causing it. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. In this post, we’ll guide you through the steps to fix this issue.
To get started, right-click on your Start menu and select “Shutdown or sign out”. While holding down the Shift key on your keyboard, click on the “Restart” option. This will take you to the Windows recovery environment. From there, select “Troubleshoot”, then “Advanced options”, and finally “Command Prompt”.
You will need to select your account, and if you don’t have a password, just click on “Continue”. This will open up the Command Prompt window, which should be running as an administrator.
Type in the following command: “chkdsk c: /f /r” and hit Enter. This will check your disk, specifically your C drive, for any errors. Wait for the process to finish. The command will examine the basic file system structure, file name linkage, security descriptors, and look for bad clusters in the user file data. At stage 5, it will look for bad or free clusters. The process could take some time, so be patient.
Once the process is finished, type in “fsutil dirty query c:” and hit Enter. This command will check if your C drive is dirty. If it’s not, then you’re good to go.
The commands used in this post will be listed in the description below, so you can refer to them if needed. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to copy them from there, but at least you’ll be able to see them sorted out and categorized to easily access them.
After the process is complete, close out the Command Prompt window, click on “Continue”, and exit to Windows 10. Your computer should boot up without any warning messages.
