Are you having trouble adding your Gmail account to Microsoft Outlook? While it can be a bit tricky, it is possible with a few changes to your settings. Follow along as we guide you through the steps to get you set up and ready to go.

First, you need to sign in to the Gmail website and make sure you’re looking at your inbox. Click on the Settings icon in the top right of the screen and select “Settings”. Then, click on “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” and navigate to “IMAP Access”. Here, click on “Enable IMAP” and then “Save Changes”.

Next, click on your initial in the top right and select “Google Account”. From there, click on “Sign-in & security” and scroll down to “Allow less secure apps”. Turn this setting on. Note that this does make your account more vulnerable, so it’s important to decide for yourself if this is the right choice for you.

If you have 2-step verification turned on and don’t see the option for “Allow less secure apps”, don’t worry. You can still get Outlook working by generating an app password. Simply select “App passwords” and confirm your main Google password. Choose “Other” for the app and type something descriptive, like “Outlook on my Windows 10 laptop”. A password will be generated, and you can copy and paste it into Outlook when prompted for your password.

Once you’ve made these changes, open Outlook and go to “File” > “Account Settings” > “Account Settings”. Click “New” and type in your Gmail address, followed by your password. Click “Connect” and then “Done” once your account has been added.
