If you need to partition your USB flash drive, also known as a pen drive, on Microsoft Windows 10, it’s a very easy process. First, make sure you have inserted your flash drive into the USB port on your system. This process will work on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10, but you will need to follow the specific steps for your operating system.
To partition your USB flash drive, open the File Explorer or press the Windows key and the letter E on your keyboard. Then, locate “This PC,” right-click on it, and choose “Manage.” This will open the Computer Management under storage. If you don’t see it, click on the down arrow and go to Disk Management.
Here, you can see the removable disk, which is your flash drive. It has been partitioned into two sections, D and F. If you want to make one section one drive for the whole space on the flash drive, right-click on it, choose “Delete volume,” and click “Yes.” Do the same for the other partition, and now it’s merged into one drive.
To make a partition, right-click, and click “New simple volume.” The New Simple Volume Wizard will open. Click “Next” and choose the size of the partition. You can partition it almost in half or go with your preferred number. Click “Next,” rename the volume label, select the “Perform a quick format” box, choose the allocation unit size and click “Next.” The partition has been created.
To partition the remaining space, right-click on the unallocated space, and choose “New simple volume.” Leave it as it is with the complete left space on the disk. Rename it, change the file system as NTFS if you wish, keep the box checked, and click “Next” and “Finish.”
You may need to rename the partitions if there is an error. If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave them in the comments below, and we’ll try to answer them as soon as possible.
