If you’re the proud owner of a new Apple Watch, congrats! But before you can start using it, you’ll need to pair it with your iPhone. Here’s how:

First, make sure your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS, connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network, and has Bluetooth turned on. Also, keep your iPhone and Apple Watch close to each other during the entire setup process.

Put on your Apple Watch and press and hold the side button to turn it on. Then, hold your iPhone next to your Apple Watch. When a message appears on your iPhone, tap “Continue.” If this is your Apple Watch, tap “Setup for Myself” or “Setup for a Family Member” if you’re setting it up for someone else in your family.

Using the camera on your iPhone, position the Apple Watch inside the on-screen frame. If you can’t use the camera, tap “Pair Apple Watch Manually” on your iPhone and follow the steps. Then, wait for a message that says your Apple Watch is paired.

Next, tap “Setup as New Apple Watch.” If you have a backup of your previous Apple Watch, you can tap “Restore from Backup” and follow the steps to transfer your data to your new watch.

Follow the on-screen prompts to choose your settings and complete the setup process. You’ll be asked to choose your wrist preference and to review and accept the terms and conditions in order to continue. Keep following the prompts until your Apple Watch begins to sync with your iPhone, and make sure to keep your iPhone close until it’s finished.

When it’s ready, a message will appear on your iPhone, and your watch face will appear on your watch. Now, your Apple Watch is set up and ready to go.
