In a project that involves sources, it is important to have a works cited page that follows the correct formatting. Specifically, the hanging indent is a requirement for the second line of a citation that spans across two lines. While this may seem daunting, creating a hanging indent in Google Slides is actually quite simple.
First, select everything in the text box that contains the works cited. Then, click on the “format options” that appear on the toolbar. There are four basic options, but the only one you need to concern yourself with is “text fitting.”
The special feature that we need for the hanging indent is located within the “text fitting” options. By default, it will be set to “none.” However, what we want is a “hanging” indent. This is where everything after the first line is indented about half an inch, rather than the first line being indented five spaces. You can adjust the hanging indent to be more or less than half an inch, depending on your preference.
By selecting everything in the text box and making the hanging indent adjustment, it will apply to all of the citations in the works cited. This includes any new citations that you may add to the text box later on.
It is important to note that the hanging indent is only applicable to Google Slides. If you need to make a hanging indent in Google Docs, there is a separate process for that.
Having a correctly formatted works cited page is crucial in any project that involves sources. By following these simple steps, you can easily create a hanging indent in Google Slides for your works cited page.
