If you’re looking to make your Alexa smarter, connecting it to your SmartThings devices and routines is a great place to start. By doing so, you’ll be able to control your SmartThings devices with your voice via Alexa. Don’t know how to connect the two? No worries! In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the process.
First, open your Amazon Alexa app and go to “Smart Home.” If you don’t have any devices or scenes listed, don’t worry. We’ll add them from SmartThings.
Next, go to “Skills” and type “SmartThings” into the search field. Select “SmartThings” and enable it. You’ll need to enter your email, choose your SmartThings or Samsung account, and enter your password.
Once you’ve done that, you’ll see a screen where you’ll need to choose which SmartThings location you want to authorize for Alexa. Select “Authorize” and you’ll be successfully linked.
To discover your SmartThings devices in the Alexa app, click on “Discover Devices.” Alexa will use the new connection to SmartThings to discover your devices.
Now that your devices are connected, you can control them with your voice via Alexa. For instance, if you have a device named “Bubbles,” you can say “Alexa, turn on Bubbles” and it will turn on.
If you want to control your devices and scenes from the SmartThings app, go to the “Automation” tab, then “SmartApps.” You’ll see “Amazon Alexa” listed here. You can choose which switches you want to use, or simply allow Alexa to access all devices, scenes, and routines.
That’s it! You’ve successfully connected your SmartThings devices to Alexa. Enjoy the added convenience and ease of controlling your smart home with your voice.
