If you’re an Outlook user, you may have noticed that the default email format is HTML. While this format is great for composing emails with various fonts, colors, and hyperlinks, some people prefer to use plain text emails for a simpler look. In this post, we’ll show you how to change your email format from HTML to plain text or rich text notebook in just a few simple steps.
To get started, open Outlook and click on the File option at the top left-hand corner of your screen. Next, click on Options at the bottom of the list on the left-hand side of your screen. This will open a new window, where you’ll need to click on the Mail option to view your email settings.
Once you’re in the Mail settings, scroll down until you see the Compose messages section. Here, you’ll notice that HTML is the default option selected. However, you can easily change this setting to plain text or rich text notebook by simply clicking on the desired option.
If you choose to switch to plain text, your email will be stripped of any formatting and all font and color options will be grayed out. This makes it an ideal option for people who want to send simple, text-only emails. However, if you choose rich text notebook, you’ll have access to more formatting options than plain text, but not as many as HTML.
It’s worth noting that if you have a custom HTML-based signature, it won’t work when you’re composing an email in plain text. However, we’ll cover how to create an HTML signature in a later post.
While plain text is the default format for many mobile email apps, we still recommend using HTML for most email situations. You can easily switch back to HTML by going back to the Mail settings and selecting HTML as the default option.
In summary, changing your email format from HTML to plain text or rich text notebook is a simple process that can be done in just a few clicks. Whether you prefer a plain text email or one with more formatting options, Outlook makes it easy to switch between the two.
