These tech experts in bright blue shirts help customers solve technical problems, provide advice, and support to Apple customers. If you’re a tech lover who enjoys helping others with all things Apple related, you might be wondering if a career as an Apple Genius is for you.
It all started with an idea from former Apple Chief Retail Officer Ron Johnson recommending to Steve Jobs the idea of an Apple Genius Bar – a group of concierge-style support team available to customers in retail stores free of charge. Steve Jobs initially hated the idea, but eventually trademarked the term Genius Bar.
If you’re looking to negotiate or present a salary expectation to the hiring manager, you can expect a salary of $45,135 US based on the average earning. However, if this is your first job ever, expect a minimum pay of $33,000 or $17 an hour. If you bring tons of retail experience with customer service, you can expect to earn higher than the average earning, close to the maximum of $60,000 or $30 an hour.
To become an Apple Genius, you’ll need customer service and retail experience. Previous experience of current Apple geniuses includes sales experience with other electronic retail stores such as Best Buy, IT specialists at Sony, and bookseller e-reader specialists with customer service.
While the salary is good, keep in mind that hours of retail are seven days a week, which could be time-consuming. But, if you’re looking to gain experience, you can easily transition yourself and work your way up to become an elite genius with a starting salary of approximately $70,000. Discounts are also a plus, with some saying 50% off Apple watches and $500 off Macs.
