Do you miss playing your favorite Windows 95 and 98 games? If you are like me, you probably have a lot of these classic games lying around and wish you could play them again. Well, the good news is that you can! In this tutorial, I will show you how to run these old games on your Windows 7 computer without any additional software.
Before we start, I must point out that I don’t have a full list of every game that will or will not work. However, I will show you with one game, Pokemon Play It! Edition. This game is quite rare these days, and it was only available in limited Pokemon starter bundles or starter sets back in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Firstly, go to the CD and open it in a new window. Make yourself a new folder and name it whatever you want. In my case, I named it Pokemon. Copy and paste the game into this folder. This will ensure that Windows thinks that Windows 98 is running, and it won’t detect a different operating system.
Next, go to setup, then to properties, and then to compatibility. From here, you will have a range of options to choose from. Choose Windows 98 media, and that’s it! It will then ask you to agree to any licensing warranty, proof of purchase, etc.
Once you have agreed to all the terms and conditions, it will ask you to install the required software to let the program work. It will give you classic boot-up screens, which is a delight for many of us who remember these screens from back in the day. Wait for the installation process to complete.
Finally, the moment of truth! The game will load, and you can start playing it. As you can see, the game works flawlessly on Windows 7.
Now, you don’t have to miss playing your favorite Windows 95 and 98 games anymore. It’s mind-blowing to think that games like this will still work, and I’m pleased to have shown you how to install these classic games. So, dust off those old CDs and start playing your favorite games again!
