Ooma provides some of the most powerful tools on the market for blocking unwanted calls. In this article, we will show you everything you need to know about setting up and managing call blocking so that telemarketers, spammers, and other unwanted calls become a thing of the past.
To start, log into the My Ooma portal at my.ooma.com. Hover over “Preferences” and click on “Call Blocking.” Here you will find quite a few options available.
You can choose a pre-selected filter strength or create your own custom set of filters. The “Block Anonymous Calls” feature is our lightest option and anyone calling with a hidden number will not be able to contact you.
You can create your own custom lists of numbers to block. Some might call this a personal blacklist. To add a number to your custom blacklist, click “Edit my block list.” You also have the option to block people based on their caller ID name.
You also have the option of blocking entire groups of members that start with a common set of numbers, known as wild card calling. Enter all the relevant information, then click “Save.”
“Block Known Scammers” taps into a database of numbers that have been reported by the Ooma user community. Some might call this a community blacklist. “Block Suspected Spammers” connects to a large database of known telemarketer numbers, powered by Nomorobo. This is an extensive list, with over a million entries long.
Note that numbers in your Ooma contacts will never be blocked. Some might call this your personal whitelist. So if you find that we are blocking a number that you want to hear from, simply add it to your contacts and you will always receive calls from that number.
Finally, if you are getting a large number of unwanted calls, you can choose to block any number that is not in your “My Ooma Contacts.” Make sure your “My Ooma Contacts” are up to date if you choose this option.
For each of the call blocking options, you can choose whether to send callers to voicemail, to play a call blocked message, a member disconnected message, or just to play a continuous ring.
Call blocking features are available to all Ooma Premier subscribers. If you don’t have Premier, go to ooma.com/premier.
That’s everything you need to know about Ooma’s call blocking. Happy calling!
