If you have a Macbook and you’re wondering how to remove and replace the keys, you’re in luck! It’s actually a pretty simple process that can be done with just a flathead screwdriver.
To get started, you’ll want to use the flathead screwdriver to start from the top left-hand corner of the key and press in lightly. You may need to wiggle it around a bit, but eventually, the key should just pop off.
Once the key is off, you’ll see the mechanism that allows you to type. You can click it and see how it reacts when you do. It’s pretty interesting!
Next, you’ll need to take off the white plastic part and separate it from the key. This is a pretty easy task – just use your flathead screwdriver to put a little pressure between the plastic and the white piece, then pull up on it. It should snap apart on the right side, but it’s still connected in the middle. You can use your fingers or the screwdriver to separate it the rest of the way.
Don’t worry if you feel like you’re using a bit of force – it’s snug in there, but you won’t break it.
Putting the key back is also pretty simple. You just need to use a scissor effect to separate the two pieces and line it up at the bottom. This may take some trial and error, but it’s not too difficult once you get the hang of it.
Once you’ve lined up the bottom piece of the plastic, you’ll want to snap in the right and left-hand side of it. Move it over to the right side and press down on it until you hear it snap into place. Then, do the same thing on the left-hand side.
There’s a little metal hinge on the keyboard, so you’ll want to put the plastic white piece in between it. Then, you’re ready to go! Put your key over it and press it down until you hear a little snap. That’s it!
