Tech Steve recently got his hands on the Echo Auto, a product he had been waiting for six months. He was excited to use Alexa’s voice commands while driving, and in this post, we’ll explore how to connect Echo Auto to your car.
The Echo Auto comes in a generic box, equipped with an instruction book, a USB adapter, a micro USB power cable, a 3.5 millimeter jack, and the main unit. One thing you’ll notice upon opening the box is that the main unit has several microphones on top of it to offset road noise. There are also little rubber grips on the back to ensure it stays in place.
To set up Echo Auto, you’ll need a phone with internet access, preferably with unlimited data or a mobile hotspot. First, plug in the micro USB cable, then plug it into your car’s cigarette lighter. Next, download the Amazon Alexa app on your Android or iPhone and sign in with your Amazon account.
After opening the app, click the plus sign and select “add a device.” Choose “Amazon Echo,” then “Echo Auto.” You’ll receive a warning not to set it up while driving. Once you’ve acknowledged the warning, continue. It’ll give you an option to choose your input, either auxiliary or Bluetooth, for music playback. Then, the app will guide you through a quick video tutorial and ask for permission to access your microphone.
Once the setup is complete, you can try out some of Echo Auto’s voice commands. There’s a mute button and an action button on top of the device. It’s magnetized and comes with a car mount that makes installation a breeze.
Tech Steve loves his Echo Auto and found himself using it more than he anticipated. It’s a fun way to explore the area around you and stay informed with traffic updates, nearby restaurants, and events. The only downside is that it takes up a cigarette lighter slot and requires Bluetooth connectivity to your phone. Nonetheless, he highly recommends it and encourages you to check out Amazon reviews and see if it’s a right fit for you.
