How to Watch TV on Apple CarPlay

Are you looking for ways to maximize the Apple CarPlay system in your vehicle? If so, you’re in luck! In this short series of videos, Tim from Advancing Card Technologies will show you how to get the most out of your Apple CarPlay system.

First things first, you need a vehicle that has Apple CarPlay. It doesn’t have to be an Audi, but we’re in an RS6 at the moment, which has CarPlay as standard. Once your phone is connected to the system, you’ll have access to all your apps and other features.

People often ask how to watch YouTube, Netflix, or even smart home devices on the CarPlay system. Unfortunately, the CarPlay system itself can’t do this. However, we can piggyback the CarPlay interface in your vehicle using a media player box.

Full disclosure, it’s not actually CarPlay that’s doing this. Instead, it’s our box of tricks that plugs into your CarPlay system. The car thinks it’s CarPlay, but it’s actually a media player. We’ve gone through the whole system in another video, but for now, let’s focus on how we can watch Netflix in the car with the Apple CarPlay system.

To start, disconnect your CarPlay and plug in our media box. It takes around 20 to 30 seconds to boot up, but once it’s ready, you’re good to go.

Now that we’ve set up the media box, let’s get to the good stuff! In this video, we’ll show you how to watch TV in your vehicle using Apple CarPlay. Well, we’re bending the truth a little bit because it’s not really CarPlay that we’re using. Instead, we’re using the Apple CarPlay interface and network to connect to our media box and apps.

In the UK, there are various apps like NOW TV, ITV Hub, BBC, Channel 4, and more that you can download to watch TV. For demonstration purposes, we downloaded two apps – NOW TV and ITV.

We’ve logged into them and opened up the NOW TV app. After giving it a couple of seconds, we can find a channel. You can move the bars around to watch live TV or choose to watch something else. For this example, we’ll go with Sky News.

It’s essential to note that while you can watch TV with this system, it’s not for while you’re driving. We don’t advocate that at all. It’s purely for when you’re set up and have nothing to do. Once you’ve found what you want to watch, you can do so on your Audi system or any vehicle with Apple CarPlay wired.

Overall, it’s pretty cool, and we like it a lot! So, if you’re parked up in your vehicle and want to watch a bit of TV, we’ve got you covered. You can use either the touchscreen or the universal remote to navigate your way through. If you’re interested, we’ll drop the link to the product in the description below, and you can purchase it to ship it out to you.
