How to Use Counta in Google Sheets

If you’re working with data in Google Sheets, you may need to count the number of cells that contain certain types of data. Luckily, Google Sheets has a built-in function called COUNTA that can help you do just that.

COUNTA returns the count of cells with different types of data in the specified range. It does not count blank cells, but it does count blank cells with spaces. Here’s how to use it:

1. To count a range of cells with different types of data, type “=COUNTA” into a cell, select the range you want to count, and press Enter.

2. If you want to count cells in two ranges, you can add a second range to the COUNTA formula. Type “=COUNTA” into a cell, select the first range you want to count, type a comma, select the second range, and press Enter.

3. If you don’t want to count blank cells, make sure they are actually blank. COUNTA will count cells with spaces, so be sure to remove any spaces if you don’t want them to be counted.

By using the COUNTA function in Google Sheets, you can quickly and easily count the number of cells with different types of data in your spreadsheets. It’s a simple but powerful tool that can save you time and effort when working with data.
