If you’ve recently purchased a Midland walkie-talkie and are unsure how to use it, you’ve come to the right place. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the initial setup and basic operation of your device.
First, power on your radio. You’ll see channel 1 and H for the high power setting, as well as the battery level indicator. The PTT button on the left side of the radio is the push-to-talk button used to transmit. On the right side of the radio is a cover for the port where you can connect headsets or microphones.
On the front of the radio, you’ll see various buttons, including the lock and call button, arrow down SOS button, arrow up button, and the monitor/scan button. In the center is the Menu and Weather Channel button. A long push on this button puts you into the NOAA weather channel mode.
To make changes to your device, enter menu mode by pressing the menu button. Use the arrow up or down to select the channel frequency you’d like to use, then press the push-to-talk button to select that channel. To change the power level setting, toggle through the “Pr” setting until you come to low, medium, or high settings.
Lock the keypad by pushing the call lock button for a long hold and unlock it by pushing it again. A long push on the arrow down SOS button will activate an alarm, while a long push on the monitor/scan button will disable the squelch circuit.
While there are other functions available on your Midland walkie-talkie, the aforementioned instructions are all you need to know to operate the device. For more information on setting up CTCSS tones on your radios, watch the “CTCSS for Midland Walkies” video on this channel.
