If you’re a Google Chromecast user, you may have encountered a problem where your device is stuck on an older firmware version, preventing you from accessing new features. This can be frustrating, especially if you’re missing out on important functionality.
For instance, did you know that different Chromecast devices can run on different firmware versions, even if they’re the same generation? This can lead to inconsistencies in performance and functionality between devices.
Unfortunately, there’s no built-in option to manually update your Chromecast firmware via the Google Home app. However, there is a workaround that involves using a Windows machine to force your Chromecast to check for updates.
To do this, you’ll need to open the Google Home app on your smartphone or tablet to determine your Chromecast’s IP address on your home network. Then, on a Windows machine, open Notepad and copy and paste the command from the video description, replacing the “your friend cast IP” section with your Chromecast’s actual IP address.
Next, select all and copy the entire command back to the clipboard and open Windows PowerShell by clicking start and typing in PowerShell. Paste the command and press enter, and your Chromecast should immediately reboot and enter updating mode.
If the update is successful, your Chromecast will download and install it before rebooting to the latest applicable firmware. However, it’s worth noting that this method may not work for everyone, and some users have reported issues with their Chromecast remaining stuck during the update process.
