How to Update MacBook Pro 2011: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you’re an owner of an old Mac, you may find yourself receiving messages that your operating system is no longer supported by your applications or browser. Don’t worry; you can still upgrade your device to the latest version. In this guide, we’ll show you how to update your MacBook Pro 2011 to the newest version, Catalina.

Before we begin, we recommend checking how old your computer is. We recommend anything above 2011 iMacs or MacBook Pros or MacBook Airs, make sure you have an i5 processor or above, nothing like an I3. You’ll need an i5 or i7 and at least eight gigs or more of RAM because if you have anything less than those, it’s going to be very slow. Additionally, you want to make sure you have an SSD hard drive in there.

The first step is to go to dosdude1.com and click on the Catalina patch link. Download the latest version, and the patch will let you download the Catalina operating system, which you’ll install on your current MAC.

If you get a security message, go to your system preferences, unlock security, and open it up again. Afterward, select Open Anyway, and it should open correctly. You’ll then need to download the copy of the operating system and create a bootable installer from a flash drive that has to be over 10 gigs. Insert the flash drive into your computer, and we’ll use it to install the OS from the flash drive onto the unit.

Make sure you back up your computer because we’re going to wipe this drive out. You can do a time machine backup or a manual backup, but you must back up all your documents, pictures, and everything onto a flash drive, external hard drive, or use time machine.

Once it’s done, you’ll get the success message. You’ll then shut down and install the actual flash drive into your computer. To install, hold down the option key until you get the screen and go over to the installer.

Before selecting reinstall OS, make sure your hard drive is an apfs volume. If not, erase and make your hard drive bet; otherwise, it won’t install correctly. Install the operating system, and you should be all good with no issues.

Lastly, find the future and run this patch; it’ll check for all the latest updates and keep you up to date. This will also fix any issues like drop rings or anything like that.

By following these steps, you can upgrade your MacBook Pro 2011 to the latest version and enjoy its full functionality.
