If you’re looking to upgrade your home’s HVAC system, the Nest Thermostat is a great option. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of installing and setting up your Nest Thermostat.
First, gather all the tools you’ll need for installation and make sure your heating and/or cooling system is working properly before you start. Then, go to your home’s breaker box and turn off the switch that controls the power to your HVAC system. This will protect it during installation. If you need to, you can also turn off the main power switch at the breaker box.
Open the Google Home app and click the add button, tap set up device, tap on set up new devices in your home, then select your home. The app will now search for your device. When you see “what are you setting up,” tap on Thermostat and scan the QR code on the back of your thermostat.
Next, the app will walk you through wiring, removing your old thermostat and installing your new one, configuring your new thermostat to work with your HVAC system, and using your new thermostat and setting schedules. Make sure the connector button stays down after inserting each wire, otherwise your thermostat may not get enough power and you won’t be able to finish set up.
If you purchased a trim kit, you’ll need to install it before you install your thermostat. Tap “I have a trim kit” and follow the app instructions. Before installing the base plate, double check to make sure the power is off.
Once your thermostat is installed, turn the power back on and select your language. Then, the app will test the installation to make sure your thermostat is getting enough power. Follow the remaining steps to tell your thermostat a few more things about your system. You’ll select the mode you want to use when you turn your system on, and then you’ll connect to Wi-Fi.
Scheduling temperatures for each part of your day can help you save energy. Your thermostat can also check if anyone’s home and automatically adjust the temperature. To set up temperature presets, create a schedule, and set up home and away routines, turn on home and away routines. When it’s on, the home app can use your phone’s location to determine if anyone’s home and then automatically adjust the temperature to help you save energy.
To adjust the temperature, tap Thermostat in the Google Home app, then drag your finger along the dial on your screen. You can also tap plus and minus to increase or decrease the temperature a degree at a time. To switch between heat, cool, heat and cool, or to turn off your system, tap mode. Then tap the mode you would like to turn on.
Your thermostat also comes with an HVAC monitoring feature that alerts you to potential system issues. It can also provide seasonal reminders to help your system run smoothly.
