If you own an Apple Watch, you might want to set up cellular data to use it independently, without the need for your iPhone nearby. The good news is that the process is straightforward and the instructions are the same for all Apple Watch models. In this post, we will guide you through the steps to set up cellular data on your Apple Watch.
First, open the Watch app on your iPhone and navigate to mobile service. Under the setup mobile service option, you will see instructions on how to configure mobile data or service to your Apple Watch. If there are any issues in configuring mobile data, you will see an error message in that area. You can resolve this by contacting your network service provider.
Tap on setup mobile service, and you will be given a wizard-type screen that shows the features available once you’ve activated mobile data on your Apple Watch. You can make and receive calls, send and receive messages, and use other app data without your iPhone nearby.
After selecting your network provider, submit a request to register your Apple Watch with your smartphone number. Wait for the request to be submitted successfully, and the page will take you back to the mobile service configuration page. The network name and mobile plan will appear on the screen. There is no need to recharge a separate plan as it uses your existing iPhone’s mobile plan.
Once the activating process is complete, you’ll receive a message that confirms the successful activation of cellular data to your Apple Watch. You can manage your network account or remove the plan from your watch anytime.
On your Apple Watch, access the mobile data usage statistics anytime from the Watch app. You can toggle on and off any apps or system services that use mobile data within your Apple Watch.
You can make calls using the cellular data feature on your Apple Watch after unpairing it from your iPhone and turning off Wi-Fi. In case of any network coverage issues, the status will show as connected or disconnected to your cellular data.
