Refurbishing computers can be a great way to earn some extra cash or even start a business. But where do you start? In this guide, we’ll take a look at the process that Philip from G6 Technology Services uses to refurbish computers.
First, Philip starts by disassembling the computer to see what he’s working with. In this example, he’s working with an Optiplex 9020 ultra-small form factor. He removes the front cover, top cover, power supply, cage that holds the optical drive and SSD, and heatsink. He also measures the CMOS battery and replaces it with a new one.
Next, Philip cleans off the thermal paste from the CPU and heatsink and reapplies fresh thermal compound. He also blows out any dust from the computer.
Once the cleaning is done, it’s time to reassemble the computer. Philip installs a brand new solid-state drive and reinstalls the power supply and other miscellaneous cables. He then attaches the front trim and top cover.
After making sure everything is securely attached, Philip cleans the computer and reinstalls the operating system (in this case, Windows 10). He updates the software and installs drivers.
And that’s it! With these steps, you can refurbish a computer and give it a new life.
