How to Read a Book on Zoom: A Guide for Book Buddies

In today’s digital world, it’s easier than ever to engage with others virtually. This is especially true for book buddies who may not have access to physical children’s books. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of reading a book to your book buddy on Zoom.

The first step is to access the digital library available at TLCba.org/childrens-ministry. Once you’re there, find the Book Buddy logo and click on the link to access the free library of digital children’s books. Since your book buddy is likely an elementary student, click on the “Elementary Stream” link to access the bookshelf of available books.

When choosing a book, select one that says “Read” rather than “Play.” The ones that say “Play” are recordings. Once you’ve found a book that you like, click on “Read” to access the book’s contents and illustrations.

Next, schedule a Zoom meeting with your book buddy. In the Zoom app, click on “Schedule a Meeting” and title it “Book Buddy Meeting.” Choose a time and date that works for both you and your book buddy. Make sure to require a meeting password for added security. Ensure that your video and audio are on, and then click “Schedule.”

To send your book buddy the Zoom invitation, copy the invitation by clicking “Copy Invitation” on the Meetings tab or the homepage. Then, open your email and paste the invitation into a new email addressed to your book buddy.

When it’s time for your Zoom meeting, start the meeting and turn on your video and audio. Share your screen so that your book buddy can see the book while you read it to them. You can scroll down the screen and read the book to them while they see the illustrations.

When you’re done, stop sharing your screen and continue to talk to your book buddy, pray with them, and offer encouragement until your next Zoom meeting.

Reading a book to your book buddy on Zoom is a great way to connect and share the joy of reading. With these simple steps, you’ll be able to engage your book buddy virtually and make a positive impact on their learning.
