With the release of iOS 14.5 and iPad OS 14.5, Apple users have a range of new features to explore. One of the most exciting additions is the ability to change the default music player on your iPhone or iPad. This means that you don’t have to stick with Apple Music as your default choice – you can switch to Pandora, TuneIn, or even Spotify.
If you’re a Spotify fan, you’ll be pleased to know that you can now set the app as your default music player. This means that when you ask Apple’s digital assistant to play music, it will default to Spotify instead of Apple Music.
To get started, you’ll need to have iOS 14.5 or iPad OS 14.5 installed on your device. If you’re not part of Apple’s beta program, you’ll need to sign up to get access to the latest updates. The public beta program is free to join, while the developer beta requires a fee.
Once you have the latest software installed, changing your default music player is easy. Simply ask Apple’s assistant to play some music, or hold down the side button to invoke Siri. After updating to iOS 14.5, you’ll see a new list of options, including the Apple Podcast app, Spotify, Pandora, and any other music apps you have installed on your device.
It’s worth noting that the feature is still a little buggy, and you may need to power cycle your device to get it to work properly. But once you’ve set Spotify as your default music player, you’ll be able to enjoy all your favorite tunes without any hassle.
If you’re an Apple Music fan, you may prefer to stick with the default option. But for those who prefer Pandora, Spotify, or other alternatives, this new feature is a welcome addition to iOS 14.5.
Let us know what you think of the new feature, and whether you’ve changed your default music player on your iPhone or iPad. And if you have any other suggestions for future software updates, be sure to share them on Twitter.
