How to Lock Your Netgear Router for Maximum Security

Securing your network router is crucial to ensure that your personal information and data remain safe. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to lock your Netgear router for maximum security.

To get started, open up your preferred browser and type in the IP address 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. Once you hit enter, a box will prompt you to enter a username and password. For Netgear routers, the default username is “admin” and the default password is “password” (all lowercase).

Once you’re logged in, find the “Wireless Settings” tab under the “Setup” section on the left-hand side. This is where you’ll adjust your security settings, including your SSID name and password.

If you want to change your SSID name, you can do so in this section. Your SSID is the name of your Wi-Fi network that appears when you search for it on your devices.

To set up your password, scroll down to the “Security Options” section. For the most secure setting, we recommend using “WPA2-PSK (TKIP)”. It’s a stronger security setting than WEP, but it’s important to note that older devices may not support it. In this case, you can use WEP instead.

Choose your password – it can be 8 to 63 characters long. Once you’ve entered your desired password, click “Apply” to save your changes.

And that’s it – your Netgear router is now locked with a secure password. Remember, it’s important to keep your router password safe and change it periodically for maximum security.
