How to Extend Google WiFi: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you’re tired of weak and unreliable Wi-Fi signals in your home, then Google WiFi is the solution you need. Google WiFi is a mesh network system that replaces your old router with one or more points to spread a strong signal throughout your home. In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up your Google WiFi and add additional points to extend your network’s coverage.

To get started, you’ll need a Google account, the Google Home app, internet service, and a modem. If you haven’t already, download the Google Home app from Google Play or the Apple App Store and set up a home for your devices. Once you’ve done this, you’re ready to set up your first Google WiFi point.

Place your first Google WiFi point near your modem and in plain view. Avoid placing it next to other objects that could obstruct it. Connect the power cable and ethernet cable to the point, then connect the other end of the ethernet cable to your modem. Plug the adapter into a power socket and wait for about a minute. The light on the point will pulse slowly blue when it’s ready for setup.

Open the Google Home app and add a new device by tapping on “set up new devices in your home” and selecting your home. The app will search for your device, and when it’s found, tap “yes” to set it up. Point your phone at the QR code on the bottom of your Google WiFi point, and the app will check your device’s internet connection and prepare your WiFi for setup. Finally, name your network and choose a secure password that will be hard for others to guess.

Once you’ve set up your first point, you can add additional points to extend your network’s coverage. Spread your points evenly and no more than two rooms away from each other to create a strong signal between points. Connect the power cable and adapter to each point, and follow the instructions in the Google Home app to finish setup. When you’ve finished setting up all your points, the app will run a mesh test to confirm that your devices are correctly placed online and working together.

You can use the Google Home app to modify your WiFi network’s password, run speed tests, set up parental controls, or create a guest network. With Google WiFi, you’ll enjoy a reliable, strong signal throughout your home. If you need further assistance, visit Google WiFi’s help center to learn more.
