If you’re feeling nostalgic for the classic PlayStation 1 games but don’t have the console anymore, you can still enjoy those games on your PC. In this guide, we’ll show you how to get a working PS1 emulator for your computer and where to find the games for it.
Before starting, make sure you have either 7-zip or Winrar downloaded. Then, create a folder on your desktop and name it “ps1” to keep all your files in one place.
Next, open Microsoft Edge or any web browser and search for “epsxe.” Download the emulator by selecting the top option for Windows. While it’s downloading, search for “scph 1001.bin” and download it from any website available. We recommend Romsmode. Then, search for “vims layer” and open it. Select the PlayStation option, search for the game you want, and download it. We’ll use Crash Bandicoot 2 for this guide because it’s a small download.
Once you have all the files downloaded, open your PS1 folder and your downloads folder. Move the emulator, the game, and the scph files into your ps1 folder. Then, right-click on the files, press 7-zip, and select “extract here.”
Drag the scph-501 dot bin into the bios folder, and you’re almost ready to go. Open the epsxe.exe and press “config.” If you have a gamepad, you can set it up here. Otherwise, you can use your keyboard. Then, go to “config video” to change the screen settings according to your preferences.
Finally, press “file,” then “run iso,” and navigate to where your games are installed. Select the bin file, press open, and your game will boot up.
If you have any trouble, make sure to check the settings, and if your game crashes, go to “option,” then “cpu overclocking,” and make sure it’s on times one.
That’s all you need to do! Enjoy playing your favorite PlayStation 1 games on your PC.
