Are you tired of going through levels of directories just to access a folder on your Mac? If so, aliases can be a game-changer for you. Aliases are basically shortcuts on Mac that allow you to access a folder or file with a single double-click.
Jeff Benjamin of iDownloadBlog recommends using aliases for external drives, especially when dealing with large video files. In his video, he demonstrates how to create an alias for his Final Cut Original Media folder on his external drive.
Jeff explains two ways to create an alias. The first way is by right-clicking on the folder you want to create an alias for and selecting “Make Alias.” This will create an alias in the same location as the original folder. You can then drag the alias to your desired location for easy access.
The second, and better, way to create an alias is by finding the folder you want to create an alias for, holding down the Option and Command keys on your keyboard, and dragging the folder to your desired location. This will immediately create the alias in the location you want it to appear.
Once you’ve created your alias, you can rename it to make it easier to identify. To access the original location of the folder, simply right-click on the alias and select “Show Original.”
Using aliases can greatly improve your workflow and save you time when accessing frequently used folders or files. So give it a try and let us know what you think in the comments below.
