If you’ve recently upgraded your home internet to T-Mobile’s 5G Gateway and have been struggling to connect your printer, you’re not alone. The security on this new device is top notch, which can make it challenging to connect older devices. However, home inspector BJ Pozneki has a simple trick to help you connect your printer to the T-Mobile home internet.
The first step is to open up the T-Mobile internet app and go to the Network section. Here, you’ll create a split network within the network, which will allow you to connect your printer to a separate, lower-security network. Simply hit the plus sign to create a new network, give it a name (such as “Printer 2”), choose a password, and change the frequency band to 2.4. Then, change the security to WPA2 and hit “add”.
Once you get the success pop-up, you’ll lose internet connection for about 90 seconds. After that, you’ll see the new network that you created, and this is the network that you’ll connect your printer to. Follow the instructions for your specific printer to connect it to the network (which may involve pressing a series of buttons), and make sure to select the new “Printer 2” network and password when prompted.
One thing to note is that once you’re done setting up your printer, you’ll need to go back into the T-Mobile network on your device to ensure it’s connected properly. Pozneki made the mistake of staying in the “Printer 2” network and couldn’t get his printer to work until he went back to the main T-Mobile network.
Overall, connecting your wireless printer to T-Mobile’s home internet can be challenging, but with Pozneki’s helpful tips, you’ll be able to do it with ease. Follow the instructions for your specific printer, and if you run into any issues, don’t hesitate to reach out to T-Mobile’s customer service. Happy printing!
