If you’re someone who works on multiple projects at once, you know how frustrating and counterproductive it can be to constantly switch between tabs on a single screen. Luckily, you can connect two monitors to your laptop to increase your productivity and efficiency.
But what if you want to close your laptop and still use the two monitors? It’s possible and easy to do. Here’s how:
First, make sure your two monitors are plugged into your laptop. If you’re not sure how to do that, watch a tutorial video on connecting multiple monitors to your laptop.
Once you’re set up, right-click anywhere on your background and select “display settings.” Alternatively, you can go to the Windows menu, select “settings,” then “system,” and finally, “display.”
Select the monitor for your laptop and go to “multiple displays.” There are two ways to proceed from here. You can either select the drop-down menu and click on “disconnect this display” to disconnect the laptop display and only show the two monitors, or you can select the “duplicate display” option to duplicate the display onto the two monitors.
If you don’t see the “disconnect display” option, try selecting “duplicate display” first. It should appear after you’ve tried it once. Once you’ve selected “disconnect display,” your laptop display should go black.
Now, to close your laptop and still use the two monitors, right-click the battery icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen and select “power options.” Choose “choose what closing the lid does” and set both options to “do nothing” when it’s plugged in and when it’s on the battery.
Save the changes, and you’re done! You can now close your laptop and use the two monitors.
