If you’ve ever tried to change your name on Instagram and found that it keeps prompting you to change it on Facebook as well, you might be feeling frustrated. Luckily, there’s a simple way to unlink your Facebook and Instagram accounts, so you can have a different name on each platform.
To get started, open up the Instagram app and tap on your profile at the bottom right. From there, select “Edit Profile” and then tap on “Name.” Normally, this would prompt you to change your name on Facebook as well, but we’re going to take a different approach.
If you know your Facebook login, you can hit “Manage Settings” at the top of the screen and turn off “Sync Profile Info.” This will prevent your Instagram changes from affecting your Facebook account. However, if you don’t know your Facebook login, there’s another way to do it.
First, tap on the three lines at the top right of the screen and then select “Settings.” From there, go to “Account Center” and select “Profiles.” You should see both your Facebook and Instagram profiles listed here. Tap on your Facebook profile and then toggle off “Sync Profile Info.”
Now, when you go back to change your name on Instagram, you won’t be prompted to change it on Facebook as well. Your accounts are essentially “unsynced” from each other, so you can have different names on each platform. If you ever want to sync them back up, just go back into the “Profiles” section of your account center and toggle the switch back on.
And that’s it! By following these simple steps, you can easily change your name on Instagram without having to change it on Facebook as well.
