AT&T has recently announced new international day passes that can make it easier for you to stay connected while overseas. With the international day passes, you can use your existing smartphone plan to stay connected using data, mobile hotspot, calling, and texting. This feature is available in over 200 countries.
To activate the international day pass, you’ll need to contact AT&T Advance or go into your online account to activate the option. You’ll be billed $10 per day for access, and you’ll have 24 hours to use it. If you use any service, you’ll be automatically billed $10 on your bill. The international day pass feature is off by default, so you’ll need to opt-in before traveling internationally.
The international day passes are only available for AT&T postpaid smartphone plans, including legacy AT&T smartphone plans. It does not apply to prepaid or any other subsidiaries or MVNO plans like Cricket. The deal only applies to consumer plans and not business plans. However, business plans can get a 50% discount for up to four lines of service in a billing month.
It’s important to note that AT&T postpaid plans already include free roaming in Canada and Mexico, so you won’t need to redeem a day pass when traveling in those countries. Additionally, AT&T previously had a clause in their fine print that they could turn off the international roaming feature if international was your primary use over a two-month back-to-back period. It’s not clear whether that’s still the case with the new day passes.
Compared to T-Mobile, which offers free international roaming on all postpaid plans but with reduced data speeds, AT&T’s international day pass provides users with more flexibility, speed, and access to their existing smartphone plan. Verizon also offers a day pass option, but users are limited to 500 megabytes per day of data usage.
Overall, AT&T’s new international day passes are a great option for postpaid smartphone users who want to stay connected while traveling internationally. With affordable pricing and access to all plan features, it’s an appealing option for those who travel frequently.
