The summer season has arrived in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and with it comes a new opportunity to catch some rare fish, including sharks. In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at the different types of sharks you can find, when and where to catch them, and how to make the most of your time on the mysterious Shark Island.
There are six different kinds of sharks in the game: the sucker fish, whale shark, great white shark, hammerhead shark, sawshark, and ocean sunfish. All of these can be encountered throughout the summer season in the ocean, but they spawn at different times. The sucker fish and whale shark can be found all day, every day during summer. The great white shark, hammerhead shark, and sawshark are most commonly found during the evening, from 4 pm to 9 am. Finally, the ocean sunfish can be found during the day, from 4 am to 9 pm.
While these sharks are rare to encounter on your main island, there is a good chance you’ll stumble across the Shark Island, also known as Dorsal Finn Island, when traveling to mystery island tours. This island is only in the random island pool during the summer and is extremely lucrative because every fish shadow has a fin and is either a shark or an ocean sunfish. You are guaranteed these particular finned fish and can fill up your pockets before leaving and sell them for hundreds of thousands of bells.
To make the most of your time on Shark Island, you must have upgraded the resident services and carry a ladder and a vaulting pole for the island to be included in your random island pool. Unfortunately, there’s only a 0.5 chance of encountering this island, but statistically, the chances of finding it are 1 in 200. Despite it being a rare island, you can only encounter Dorsal Finn Island once per day.
If you’re hoping to trade sharks with CJ for collectibles, it’s worth catching at least three of each. The ocean sunfish is not worth as much as the sharks, but it will spawn in July. Don’t forget to make the most of your time on the island as you won’t be able to go back until the next day if you’ve already traveled there.
In conclusion, the shark season in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a fun and lucrative opportunity to catch rare fish. While it may take some time to encounter the Shark Island, it’s worth it if you have some spare tickets from trades and things like that.
