If you’ve ever experienced the frustration of losing unsaved work during a power outage, you know the importance of having a battery backup. In this test, we’ll be running a computer on battery power from the APC Back-UPS Pro 1000 to see how long it takes for the computer to shut down automatically.
To ensure that our work is saved, we’ve installed the APC PowerChute software and selected the option to keep the computer on for as long as possible. When the battery backup has around five minutes left, the computer should automatically shut down, saving all our work.
Our computer specifications are an Intel Core i7 3770 and a GTX 770 graphics card, and we’ll be playing a YouTube video while the test runs. We’ll also be monitoring the wattage being drawn by the monitor and the computer, which comes out to around 120 watts on average.
After running on battery power for 30 minutes, we still had 17 minutes to go until the PC shut down. After 40 minutes, we had 12 minutes until shutdown and 7 minutes left at the 50-minute mark. Finally, at the 52-minute and 56-second mark, the PC shut down, having run on battery power for over 50 minutes.
Overall, the battery backup of the APC Back-UPS Pro 1000 proved to be reliable, providing more than enough time to save our work and shut down our computer in case of a power outage. Additionally, the option to plug in an external battery and double the backup time is a convenient feature.
If you’re looking for a reliable battery backup, the APC Back-UPS Pro 1000 is definitely worth considering. With its ability to save your work and shut down your computer automatically, you won’t have to worry about losing anything during a power outage.
