Google Sheets: How to Make Negative Numbers Red

Are you working on a spreadsheet in Google Sheets and want to learn how to format negative numbers to be displayed in red font? In this article, we will show you two different ways to achieve this effect.

Firstly, you can format the cells manually. Start by selecting the area of your sheet that you want to format. Then, go to the “Format” tab, click on “Number”, and select “Custom number format” at the bottom. Click on different options to see examples of how positive and negative numbers will be displayed. You can select the option that includes dollar signs if you want to display currency. Apply the format and any negative numbers entered in that area will be displayed in red font.

Alternatively, you can use conditional formatting. Select the range of cells that you want to format, go to “Format”, and select “Conditional formatting”. Choose the “Single color” option and select the font color you want to use. Set the rule so that any number less than 0 will be displayed in red font. Again, any negative numbers entered in that area will be displayed in red font.

By using either of these methods, you can easily format negative numbers in Google Sheets to be displayed in red font. This can make it easier to distinguish positive and negative values in your spreadsheet.
