Did you know that you can use a keyboard and mouse with your PlayStation 4? It’s true! Sony’s gaming console supports these peripherals straight out of the box, and setting them up is super simple. In this guide, we’ll show you how to connect a keyboard and mouse to your PS4.
First, let’s take a look at why you might want to use a keyboard and mouse with your PS4. While the console is primarily used for gaming, it also functions as a multimedia machine. With a keyboard, you can type messages to your friends much faster and easier than using a DualShock 4 controller. Additionally, navigating the system’s menus and browsing the web is much simpler with a keyboard and mouse. Finally, some games support the use of a keyboard and mouse, which can be a game-changer for players who struggle to manage complex controls with a standard controller.
The PS4 supports three types of keyboards and mice: wired USB, wireless USB, and Bluetooth. Regardless of which you choose, connecting them to your PS4 is straightforward. If you’re using a wired keyboard or a wireless keyboard with a USB dongle, simply plug the keyboard into one of the two USB ports on the front of the PS4 console. After a moment, the PS4 should recognize your keyboard and mouse automatically and ask which profile you would like to associate them with. Once you’ve made your selection, you’ll be able to use the keyboard and mouse with your PS4.
If you’re using a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, navigate to the PS4 settings menu and select “Devices” > “Bluetooth Devices.” The PS4 will automatically search for nearby Bluetooth peripherals. Make your Bluetooth keyboard and mouse discoverable by putting them into pairing mode (consult the instruction manual of your Bluetooth device if you’re unsure how to do this). The PS4 should then detect your Bluetooth keyboard or mouse and ask which profile is going to be using the devices. Once you choose a profile, you’ll be able to use the Bluetooth keyboard with your PS4 console.
If you want to adjust the pointer speed of your mouse or change the language of your keyboard, you can do so in the PS4 settings menu under “Devices” > “External Keyboard and/or Mouse.”
It’s worth noting that the list of PS4 games that officially support a keyboard and mouse is very short. However, using a keyboard and mouse with these titles can significantly improve your gaming experience. If you want to use a keyboard and mouse with a game that doesn’t officially support them, third-party products such as the XIM4 adapter and the XIM Apex adapter will allow you to do so. However, be warned that the use of a keyboard and mouse on games that don’t support them can result in your account being banned. This is because the use of a mouse and keyboard can give players an unfair advantage over those using a controller.
