If you’re an eBay seller, you probably know how tricky it can be to pack and ship fragile items, especially computer monitors. Monitors are delicate, and even the slightest bump or jostle during shipping can cause irreparable damage. In this blog post, we’ll be sharing some tips from Emmanuel, an eBay seller who has successfully packed and shipped over 400 monitors.
First, safety should be your top priority. Grab a pair of hand gloves before you start packing. Secondly, make sure your carton is of the right quality and thickness. Emmanuel recommends using a double or triple wall corrugated carton, and avoiding single wall cartons altogether.
Measure your monitor before packing it, to ensure that it fits the carton you intend to use. Avoid using a carton that is roughly the same size as the monitor, as there won’t be enough space left for you to stuff in the filling materials. The filling materials must properly sit within the carton to ensure that the items you are trying to pack stay safe.
Close the bottom of the carton and prepare a good base. Emmanuel recommends using Styrofoam peanuts, packaging paper, or layers of bubble wraps. After placing your monitor on the bubble wrap, take out the monitor foot. On the HP Z Arrow 22w, all you have to do is slide the lever to the left or right and gently slide down the monitor foot.
Fully wrap the screen using high-quality bubble wrap. Do this two or three times for extra protection. Be careful with the cellotape roller, as it has sharp edges that could scratch the LCD screen. Ensure that all corners of the monitor are properly covered with bubble wrap, as this goes a long way in preventing external damages.
Separate the monitor foot from the stand by unscrewing the four screws at the base. Make sure the buyers can easily locate the screws by screwing them back on the stand. Bubble wrap the foot and the monitor stand separately.
Now it’s time to place the monitor in the carton. Slice up any extra piece of carton and place it at the bottom. Slide in the monitor, the monitor stand, and the monitor foot. Fill every available space with your Styrofoam peanuts, packaging paper, or bubble wraps. Don’t forget to include your power cables or other accessories that you have included in your sales offer, and include an invoice or a delivery note if necessary.
Finally, close the carton and make a few turns using a good quality tape to ensure that everything stays rigid and on point. With this method, Emmanuel has successfully packed over 400 monitors he has sold on eBay. With a little bit of practice, you should be able to get your hands around it too.
