If you have an original Nintendo DS, you may have experienced a broken hinge. This can be frustrating, but luckily it is a problem that can be fixed. In this guide, we will show you how to replace the hinges on your original DS.
First, you will need to get your replacement hinges. There are two parts to each hinge: a metal bit and a black bit. On the metal bit, you will see a bump on either side. This bump needs to match with the black plastic bits. Make sure it looks like three lines so that it matches on both sides. Set up your hinges like this so that you can put them in the case.
Looking at the smaller hinge, you will need to match up both sides so that it all lines up. Matching up one side will automatically match up the other.
Next, get the top part of the shell. There are two bits that we need to put in. The long one goes on one side of the shell and the short one goes on the other side. To put them in, there are notches inside the shell. Twist it around and pop in the metal bit first. Match it up carefully so that only the plastic bit is poking out. Then, grab the other half of the shell and pop it in, facing down. This will make it easier to put it in. Once you have it lined up, use quite a bit of force, but be careful, and push both hinges in. They should pop into place.
After the hinges are in, you should have a nice snap to it. That’s how you know you’ve done it right. Unfortunately, you may have scratched up the shell a bit during the process. Most of this is probably okay because it will be covered, but do be careful.
With this guide, you can successfully replace the hinges on your original Nintendo DS.
