If you’re an iPhone user who enjoys watching YouTube videos but finds it frustrating when you accidentally touch the screen and interrupt your video, you’re not alone. Fortunately, there is a way to lock your screen and avoid this issue altogether.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to lock the screen while watching YouTube videos on your iPhone.
Step 1: Open the Settings app
The first step is to open up the Settings app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Find Accessibility
Next, find the Accessibility option. If you don’t see it immediately, tap into General, then you’ll see Accessibility.
Step 3: Scroll down and tap on Guided Access
Scroll all the way down until you see Guided Access. Tap on it.
Step 4: Turn on Guided Access and Accessibility Shortcuts
Tap the toggle to turn on Guided Access. Then, tap the toggle to turn on Accessibility Shortcuts. If this option is already on, tapping it again will turn it off and then on again, as sometimes it glitches out.
Step 5: Ensure Guided Access is at the top of Accessibility Shortcuts
Tap on Accessibility Shortcuts and make sure Guided Access is at the top. If it’s not at the top, long press on those triple lines and drag it up. Make sure any other option here which may be ticked is unticked.
Step 6: Turn off Assistive Touch
Find Touch, then find Assistive Touch. Make sure Assistive Touch is turned off. Ensure that all custom actions are set to none. On the Customize Top Level Menu, everything should be removed. Just tap on the minus until there’s one option left. Assistive Touch may cause issues with guided access, so it’s important to turn it off.
Step 7: Open up the YouTube app
From here, you can open up the YouTube app.
Step 8: Decide whether to lock the screen so you cannot exit the YouTube app or cannot touch the screen
The next step is to decide whether you want to lock the screen so you cannot exit the YouTube app or cannot touch the screen.
Step 9: Skip any ads, and ensure the device is at landscape mode with the video playing
If you’re going to lock the screen so the touch won’t work, skip any ads, and ensure the device is in landscape mode with the video playing. If you’re just looking to watch regular videos, you can still use touch, so don’t worry about this.
Step 10: Triple click the power button or home button
Triple click the power button or home button (depending on your iPhone model).
Step 11: Tap on options and turn off touch
If you want to lock the screen so that the touchscreen will not work, tap on options. When you see touch, tap on this one to turn it off. Make sure the video in the background is playing; otherwise, you won’t be able to play it. Once you’re ready, tap on Start.
Step 12: Turn off buttons, motion, and side button volume buttons
If you just want to lock the YouTube app so no one can exit out of it, make sure touch is still on, but turn off stuff like side button volume buttons, motion, etc. Once you’re ready, tap on Start. It will ask for a passcode. Enter in the passcode, and you’re good to go.
Step 13: End the session
To end the session, allow access to the touchscreen or the buttons. Triple click either the power button or home button. Enter the passcode, tap on end, and you’re good to go.
With these simple steps, you can now lock your screen while watching YouTube videos on your iPhone. No more accidentally touching the screen and interrupting your viewing experience.
