Are you frustrated with weak WiFi signals in certain areas of your home? Do you wish to extend the range of your WiFi network? If yes, then this post is for you. In this post, we will guide you on how to connect router to modem wirelessly to extend your WiFi range.
To get started, you will need two routers. The main router should be connected to your modem with an internet cable. The second router will act as a repeater to extend the WiFi range. In this guide, we will be using tp-link routers to demonstrate the setup process.
Firstly, you need to login to the repeater router to set it up. The login information is provided on the router itself. Once you have logged in, disable the DHCP address, as this will be given by the main router. Then, head on to Wireless and enable the WDS (Wireless Distribution System) also known as wireless bridge. You will be asked to enter the SSID and BSSID of the router to be bridged. If you don’t know this information, then click on survey.
The page will show you all the nearby WiFi network SSID names. Connect to the WiFi network you want to bridge or extend. Note down the channel number and type in the password of the root WiFi network. Select the same channel number of the root WiFi and change the WiFi SSID name if you want. Save the settings and reboot the router.
Once you have rebooted the router, connect to the new WiFi SSID name with the same password you used during setup. You will notice that your default gateway IP has changed. This means that you have successfully bridged the two routers wirelessly.
Now, place the repeater router in the area where you want to increase the WiFi signal. Congratulations, you can now access the WiFi from your room with full range. No more frustration with weak WiFi signals!
