Zoom has become a ubiquitous video conferencing app, especially in the last year. It works on almost any device, including iPhones, Android devices, Windows 10, and of course, Mac OS. But, if you’re ready to move on from Zoom on your MacBook, you’ll need to make sure you uninstall the app correctly. Here’s a step-by-step guide to ensure that Zoom is gone for good.
Uninstalling Zoom on the newest version of Mac OS is super easy. First, open the Zoom app on your MacBook. Click “zoom.us” on the top left, then click “uninstall.” Confirm your choice, and you’ll be all set. This will delete all accompanying files related to the app as well. If you don’t want to open the app, you can also try to delete it using Finder. Select Finder from the dock, select “applications” from the menu on the left, then either use the search bar to look up the Zoom app or scroll down until you find it. Once you’ve located the app, right-click the app name, and select “move to trash” from the pop-up menu. In both cases, make sure you empty your trash after you’ve deleted the app.
If you’re using an older version of Mac OS, deleting the app is a bit more complicated. First, open Finder, select “go,” then go to the folder at the top of the screen. When that’s open, type in “zoom.us.” When Zoom opens, drag it to your trash bin. Once that’s done, click “go to folder” and type in “/system/library/extensions.” Look for a file named “zoom audio device.ke xt” and delete it if you find it. Same goes for any files named “zoom.us” and “library/application support.” If the files are there, just drag them to your trash bin, empty your trash bin, and you’re good to go.
If you want to be extra sure the app isn’t coming back and you’re okay with using terminal commands on your MacBook, check out “How to Delete Zoom Secret Server” in the link in the description below under extra precautionary measures.
Thankfully, uninstalling Zoom from your iPhone and iPad is much easier. Just find the Zoom tile on your home screen, tap and hold the app icon until the options menu pops up, tap “delete,” and then tap “ok.”
With these steps, you can rest assured that Zoom is completely uninstalled from your MacBook. Say goodbye to Zoom and hello to new video conferencing apps.
