Are you looking to change the boot order of your BIOS to boot from a CD or USB instead of the hard drive? In this quick tutorial, we will walk you through the process of changing the boot order.
Firstly, restart your computer and click on a key on your keyboard to launch the BIOS settings. Depending on your computer manufacturer, the key could be a few different keyboard shortcuts. The most typical one is the F2 key, but you can go online to look up specific keys for your motherboard manufacturer.
Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, scroll down to the “Enter Setup” selection, and tap on the Enter key on your keyboard. Now you have entered the BIOS.
Using the arrow keys again, scroll over to the “Boot” tab. To move one of the entries up or down the list, click the plus or minus key on your keyboard.
For example, if you want the CD-ROM drive to be the first item to boot, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to go down to the CD-ROM drive. Then, using the plus symbol on your keyboard, click it until CD-ROM drive is the first drive to boot.
To save these settings, click on F10, save configuration changes and exit. Before you click on Enter, you should know that you can reverse these changes to default settings at a later date. Just follow the shortcuts on the bottom of the BIOS to reset the settings.
Now click on “Enter” for “Yes,” and the computer will boot from the CD if you have one. If there’s no CD inserted in the computer or whatever your primary boot device is, it’ll automatically go to the next item in the list to boot off of.
