Setting up a static IP address for your Xbox One can provide various benefits for your console. Unlike dynamic IP addresses which change every time you turn your console on, static IP addresses remain the same. This tutorial is only applicable for internal networks within your local network. If you want to change your IP address assigned by your ISP, go to ipjecon.com.
Having a static IP address is beneficial if you’re having a port forward or if the Xbox One is conflicting with another IP address that’s on the network. UPnP service port forwarding also offers several benefits. To get started, go to your settings and select network settings before proceeding to your advanced settings.
Whether you’re using a wired or wireless connection, changing the IPV4 address is what you need to do. Note that once you change the IPV4 address, IPV6 will follow automatically. Make sure to copy down the numbers for the subnet mask and gateway as you’ll need them later.
Now move on to your desktop, and select a pre-filled IP address example. You can change the last section of the IP address anywhere between 2 and 255. Some routers go up to 2 and 254. If you choose 2 and it doesn’t work, then change it to 3.
Next, go back to your Xbox One, copy down the subnet mask and gateway, and make sure to keep it the same as you see it on your console. Then select the IP address and go to manual. Set your IP address to .10.0.0 and fill in the first three sections with the numbers that your router has assigned you. Then move on to the last section and fill it in with any number between 2 and 255. Make sure to copy the subnet mask information that you previously saw.
The gateway will be the same as it was before, so set it up and hit enter. The console will assign the IP address, and it may take a few seconds for it to complete. Once you have claimed your IP address, you’re good to go.
This tutorial is not only for Xbox One. You can apply the same method for Nintendo Switch and PS4. If you need further assistance, please feel free to watch my other videos or follow my social media. Thank you for sticking around, and don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe.
